Beautiful
The ultramodern Santa Monica Civic Center parking garage in Santa Monica, CA, features a visually dynamic Cambridge woven metal fabric system, which brings high style and sophistication to the building's facade. The mesh panels perfectly complement and contribute to the structure's design, heightening its overall aesthetic to a level worthy of an architectural landmark.
The Cambridge Parkade™ architectural mesh system greets visitors at the entrance to the Civic Center, calling attention to the parking garage and reinforcing its gateway identity.
Functional
The Parkade metal fabric system in the Santa Monica Civic Center parking garage defines architectural space, but doesn’t block light – instead, it captures light and acts as a translucent veil for the building. Additionally, the mesh system conceals the stairs in the parking garage and divides space effectively. The project team also needed an extremely durable building component that could withstand the surrounding elements. Since Cambridge metal fabric holds up in even the harshest marine environments, it was an ideal choice for the structure's location along the freeway, just a few blocks from the ocean.
Affordable
The Cambridge mesh system on the parking garage is unaffected by the tough environment around it and has maintained its original straight, continuous architectural plane. The virtual indestructibility and lifecycle of the mesh façade reduces maintenance costs, and assures that there will be no need for replacement materials. Parkade applications always combine superior aesthetics with high-quality performance, eliminating the need for additional materials.
Sustainable
The 900-space garage was designed to meet or exceed many of the USGBC's LEED® guidelines and has been recognized as the nation's first LEED-certified parking facility. The structure employs various sustainable design and construction practices, materials and products – including Cambridge’s architectural mesh, which is 100% recyclable. Mesh contributed to LEED points for incorporating recycled content in the Santa Monica Civic Center parking garage. The Parkade stainless steel mesh system also holds up very well in the natural environment, and will maintain its pristine look for many years to come.
